AbleVets, LLC is a fast-growing Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) providing healthcare information technology services and resources to help the VA and DoD improve the lives of the people they serve. AbleVets has an opportunity for an experienced, motivated Senior DevOps Engineer to support information technology projects for our customers. The position is based in Chantilly, Virginia or may be remote.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

The DevOps Engineer will provide inputs for the design, testing, engineering, automation, API integration and implementation of security solutions to the platform. This role will gather requirements, design, codify, and integrate security solutions which support the business functionality as well as the underlying infrastructure required to run and deploy those solutions. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Work closely with Product Owners, Developers, and external development teams to build and configure a high performing, scalable, cloud-based infrastructure

Improve infrastructure automation, cloud-based development initiatives, and container orchestration

Coordinate development and operations tasks across other members of the DevSecOps team

Execute best practice version control, branching and merging strategies, and continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) pipeline design

Ensure Section 508 compliance to all development and enhancement activities on the platform

Collaborate on API security, Container security, and AWS/Azure Cloud security

Create scripts or templates to automate bootstrap infrastructure provisioning and management tasks

Apply knowledge of scripting, cloud technologies, and security to harden the platform

Assist in developing an automated framework for Security Tool deployment and development, leveraging various scripting languages and open source solutions

Provide inputs for design, testing, engineering, automation, API integration, and implementation of security solutions and enhancements in all aspects of Information Security


Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or other engineering or technical discipline and ten (10) years of relevant experience. An additional eight (8) years of related experience may be substituted for degree requirement.

Experience implementing scalable cloud-based environments and systems

Experience with programming and infrastructure automation and infrastructure as code

Experience designing, developing, deploying and testing in AWS architecture

Experience with systems reliability, load balancing and monitoring

Demonstrated experience supporting high volume and scale systems with 24-hour uptimes

Demonstrated experience with the following key technologies:

Bash scripting






Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills as well as interpersonal skills to interact with customers, team members and upper management

Self-starter that can work under general direction in a highly collaborative, team-based environment

Ability to obtain a Public Trust

Ability to travel up to 10% to customer sites as needed

Preferred / Desired Skills:

Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or other engineering or technical discipline

Previous experience with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) enterprise cloud (highly desired)

AWS Certified SysOps Administrator

CISSP Certification

Experience with Human Centered Design (HCD) principles and Design Thinking

Experience with Fortify
